Ischemická bolest, nelehká to disciplína. Typ bolesti, u níž se propojuje mnoho mechanizmů vzniku, s sebou nevyhnutelně přináší obtíže při výběru efektivní terapie. Podrobné neurobiologické a molekulární souvislosti stále nejsou zcela objasněny a možnosti léčby jsou omezené.

U akutní ischemické končetinové bolesti je stále velkým problémem „farmakorezistence“, u chronické končetinové bolesti se v posledních letech ujímá zapojení neuromodulačních technik do terapeutického arzenalu.
